Studies: Light and Shadow

During the lesson on week 2, Rachel (our digital tutor) gave us some rough understanding about "Light and shadow". Understanding the principle of shadow can enhance our work. So i decide to do some studies on shadow.

Last year i found this channel from youtube name Sycra gave good tutorial in digital art, basically is about some basic principle of art, and thankfully they have this video about it.

This magazine (ImagineFX-march) has some studies about light and shadow. So Ive scanned pages about light and shadow, find it very helpful to me.

these are my notes towards the study of light and shadow.

Imagine that every shapes are formed by small planes, so when light hits a shape, lets say a round shape, not every planes of it will be the light one, only the plane that is perpendicular will be the lightest among all. According to Syrca, the simple understanding of a light is broken into 4 different tone, Highlight, halftone, terminator (which divides the lighter and darker parts of the shadow), core shadow and reflected light.
However the shadow is divided into cast shadow and atmospheric or ambient fill light.
Making it more solid.

Here are some exercise i did to have some basic understanding.
Another that Ive found out and seen on the net is that, when the object is the closest to us, it will have the greatest value. ( equals, the darker it is, the more close it is to us ) Like example, when the side is nearer, it will appear darker. Example at the side.
